There are many career options available after completing 12th grade, also known as the higher secondary school certificate. Here are some of the popular options:

  1. Bachelor’s degree: One of the most common career options after 12th is to pursue a bachelor’s degree in a field of your choice. There are many fields of study to choose from, such as engineering, commerce, arts, science, etc. A bachelor’s degree typically takes three to four years to complete, and it is a prerequisite for many professional and graduate programs.
  2. Professional courses: Another option is to pursue a professional course, such as a vocational training program, a technical diploma, or a certificate course. These courses are designed to provide practical skills and knowledge in a specific field, such as nursing, law, computer science, etc. These courses usually take one to two years to complete and can lead to jobs in industries such as healthcare, law, IT, etc.
  3. Entrepreneurship: If you have a business idea and the drive to succeed, entrepreneurship is a great career option. It involves starting and running your own business, which can be a challenging but rewarding experience. You can start a small business or become a freelancer in a field that you are passionate about, such as design, writing, or consulting.
  4. Employment: Another option is to seek employment in a company or organization. This could be in a variety of fields, such as sales, marketing, finance, human resources, etc. You can start your career as an entry-level employee and work your way up through the ranks as you gain experience and skills.
  5. Higher studies: If you want to continue your education beyond a bachelor’s degree, you can pursue a master’s or doctoral degree in a field of your choice. This can be in a specific subject, such as economics or biology, or in a professional field, such as business or law. Higher studies usually require a bachelor’s degree as a prerequisite and can take one to six years to complete, depending on the program.
  6. Going abroad: You can consider going abroad to continue your studies. Countries such as Canada, New Zealand, Australia and the United States are some of the most preferred countries as student’s destinations.

Civil services as a career option after 12th: 

Civil service is a career option that allows you to serve the government and the community at large.  It involves working in a variety of roles, such as a bureaucrat, a diplomat, a police officer and likewise. To become a civil servant, you need to clear a competitive examination, such as the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Exam in India or State Public Service Commision exams.

The minimum eligibility to appear for the UPSC is that you need to be a graduate from a recognized university. So, in order to pursue Civil Services as a career option, you need to complete your graduation in any stream, concerning your interest. As you will be eligible to take the UPSC CSE exam, either in your final year or just after your completion of final year, what you can do is that you can start your preparation by joining any good 3-year foundation course, which will help you prepare for UPSC, along with your college.
